The Altar to the Homeland, eternal homage to Miguel Hidalgo

The Government Palace of Chihuahua is a living witness of Mexican history and a majestic monument of 19th century architecture.

This sacred place saw the sacrifice of one of Mexico’s most important heroes: Miguel Hidalgo, the Father of the Nation, was shot here, leaving an indelible mark in the heart of Chihuahua and the country.

Today, in the same place where this historic event took place, stands the Altar to the Homeland, a constant reminder of the sacrifices made in the name of independence.

In addition to its historical importance, the Government Palace is the seat of the state’s executive power, being the main scenario for making decisions that guide the course of Chihuahua.

Its corridors and halls have seen the parade of numerous political figures and have hosted events of great relevance.

Created by the engineers Pedro Ignacio Irigoyen y Esperón, and rebuilt after a fire in 1941, the building combines beauty and majesty in every detail.
